Zakir Hussain, Tabla With Rakesh Chaurasia, Bansuri

Zakir Hussain’s destiny as a virtuoso tabla player was established at the knee of his father, the acclaimed classical percussionist Alla Rakha. Hussain’s own musical curiosity, masterful improvisations, and uncanny intuition then not only established him as a national treasure in his own country, India, but gained him global fame as a chief architect of the contemporary world music movement. His collaborations with such diverse luminaries as Yo-Yo Ma, George Harrison, Mark Morris, the Grateful Dead, and ELLNORA alumni John McLaughlin and Béla Fleck have used centuries-old Indian hand-drum rhythms to bridge cultures and bring together generations of listeners and musicians. One such musician is acclaimed bansuri (bamboo flute) player Rakesh Chaurasia, who is the student and nephew of venerable flutist Pandit Hariprisad Churasia and who has toured with musical peers such as Joshua Redman and Edgar Meyer. Together, Hussain and Chaurasia will celebrate Indian classical music in a program of exquisite mastery.
