Los Angeles International Music and Arts Academy, founded in 2015, brings together the most talented Indian classical musicians to research, teach, and grow not only Indian Music and Arts but also other forms of world music. The academy gives talented young musicians opportunities to work intensively on new creative ideas in a team with support of facilitators in an environment that encourages innovation and creative risk-taking through various performances and workshops. Students become part of a growing network of peers and collaborators to support their life-long musical journey.

The concert will include performances by Los Angeles International Music and Arts Academy’s students, faculty, and guest artistes’ maestro Sandeep Das, Pankaj Mishra, Nilan Chaudhuri, Kamaljeet Ahluwalia and Jas Ahluwalia

Sandeep Das:

Sandeep Das is one of the leading Tabla virtuosos in the world today. Having established himself as India’s top Tabla maestro, he has also built a prolific international reputation.He is one of the unique Indian classical musicians who has collaborated and performed with and composed for major symphony orchestras, string quartets, and jazz musicians with regularly featured concerts at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Hollywood Bowl, Royal Albert Hall and the Concertgebouw, to name a few. He has performed at prestigious events such as 150 years celebration of the UNO at the General Assembly Hall in NYC, Opening ceremony of the Special Olympics in Shanghai, Opening ceremony of the 1st Asia Expo in Kunming, China, World Economic Forum and for visiting dignitaries like the Queen of England, Queen of Thailand, the Pope and various other visiting country heads.  His collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble (SRE) for “Sing Me Home” won the 2017 Grammy Award for the Best World Music album. He has had two previous Grammy nominations in 2005 and 2009

Pankaj Mishra:

Born into an exceptional Musician-lineage.Being the son of Shri Satya Narayan Mishra, Great Grand Son of  Sarangi virtuoso Late Pt. Saraju Prasad Mishra and Grand Son of Late Pt. Mahadeo Prasad Mishra.He was trained from an early age by the renowned  Sarangi Player of Banaras Gharana late Pt. Mahesh Prasad Mishra. Pankaj created a distinct style of playing & has performed both as a Solo artist and accompanist at several prestigious events in India including the Dover Lane Music Conference, ITC Festival , Indo Occidental Symbiosis, Swar Samrat  Festival, The Salt Lake Music Festival Etc.He has toured extensively in All over USA, Canada, EUROPE,JAPAN,Bangladesh and more ,has performed at various concerts  abroad including the  Ali Akbar Music College (San Rafael – California & Basel -Switzerland), Raagmala organization (Edmonton- Canada), Deutsche Welle and WDR  (German Radio & Television),The Indian Embassy concert ( Berlin & Austria),The Gandharva Music Festival ( Neatherlands), Asia festval – Spain and many others.

Kamaljeet Ahluwalia:

Kamaljeet Ahluwalia is part of the new wave of British Asian musicians to hit the scene in recent years. A disciple of Ustad Harjinderpal Singh and the legendary Santoor maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, she uses her Indian classical roots to walk a new path and create new and interesting sounds on this rare and beautiful instrument. Having working with a diverse array of artists from Guy Sigsworth, Mercury Music Award winner Talvin Singh, Fruit Tree, Universal Taal, Bombay Dub Orchestra and acclaimed dancer and choreographer Akram Khan to name a few, this innovative and imaginative musician is currently collaborating with guitarist Giuliano Modarelli on their new project One Hundred and Six Strings and breathing new life to a proud and ancient Indian classical tradition and with producer and musician Wayne Nunes from Warrior Charge. She has performed throughout the UK and internationally as part of the multi-art production Journey into India, group recitals as well many solo performances.

Nilan Chaudhuri:

Nilan Chaudhuri has spent his entire life immersed in the tradition of Indian Classical Percussion. The son of Maestro Swapan Chaudhuri and a disciple of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Nilan received his first Tabla lesson from his father at the age of five. In 2005, Nilan made his debut duet performance in concert with his Father and sarangi master, Ramesh Misra, in Queens, New York. He has had the privilege and honor of sharing the stage with Hindustani Classical Music’s greatest treasures, such as maestros Alam Khan, Shujaat Khan, Ramesh Misra, and Amjad Ali Khansaib in a constantly growing list of prestigious venues, such as Carnegie Hall, The Fillmore, The Monterey Pop Festival, and The Fox Theater. His collaborations also include crossover work with celebrated artists, Arjun Verma, Manik Khan, Gaayatri Kaundinya, Jack Perla, The Toronto Tabla Ensemble, members of Brooklyn Raga Massive, Dennis Chambers, Miles Schon, and DJ Teeko. In addition to maintaining a busy performing schedule, Nilan teaches Tabla throughout the Bay Area as a faculty member at the Ali Akbar College of Music, and as the Director of Percussion at Chitresh Das Institute.

Jas Ahluwalia:

Jas Ahluwalia studied the illustrious Tabla under the world renowned Ustad Tari Khan. Jas has learnt the Tabla in the traditional Ustad/Shagird relationship which entails a deep bond between master and disciple. Entrenched in the classical mode of training, he is utterly conversant in a variety of genres and is a favorite accompanist among touring musicians and an accomplished solo Tabla artist. He is frequently invited to participate in studio recordings, live performances, and film scoring sessions. Jas’ recent performances include collaborations with Grammy winner Osvaldo Golijov at Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Gingger Shankar, Bombay Dub Orchestra, grammy-nominated Jazz Pianist Rob Mullins, and guitarist Andy Summers of The Police. His latest studio collaborations include those with famed Punjabi producer Sangtar and Tron and Dexter Composer Joseph Trapanese. His film credits include Sundance Audience Award Winner Circumstance, Sean Hacket’s Homecoming, and Igor Voloshin’s Beodouin. He is currently working on a classical orchestral album with Gingger Shankar, a Sikh Hymn album, recording for Richard Montoya’s film Water & Power, and touring with Gingger Shankar and Kamaljeet Ahluwalia.

Rajib Karmakar:

Rajib Karmakar is a Los Angeles based performance artist, composer and educator who combines tradition with experiment to create new forms, drawing from a deep grounding in Indian classical music to wide varieties in contemporary world music, rock and jazz. He started learning the sitar at the tender age of four from his father Sri Durgadas Karmakar. He gave his first public performance at the age of six and at the age of 12 he performed in the All India Radio. After that he started learning from Ustad Ghulam Akbar Khan of Rampur Sahswan Gharana where he was first trained in the classical vocal music that forms the foundation of the "gayaki ang" which is much prevelant in his playing and also he took training from various other maestros including Dr. Ramdas Chakravarty, Ustad Shahid Parvez and many more.Rajib has been performing in India and abroad including USA, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland performing for Ministry of Spain(Spain), Ottawa Council for Arts(Canada), Ganesh Mahotsav(India), Boom Festival(Portugal), Deutsch Indische Gesellschaft(Germany), Festival of India(USA and Canada), Festival Papillotes(France), Harbourfront Summer Series(Toronto), NAMM(Los Angeles), Theatre Rogue Du Conservatoire(Montreal), National Arts Center(Ottawa) Tropical Heatwave Festival(Tampa), Straz Center(Tampa) , Castello Di Romeo(Italy), Roy.O.Disney Hall(Los Angeles), PASIC (Indianapolis) and many more. He has played in various projects for Disney, Sony, Universal, A&E Network and also has been an artist in residence for various universities.
