Chicago Blues legend TAIL DRAGGER returns to Hyde Park, joined by one of the best young Blues guitarists in the world JAMIAH ROGERS.
James Yancy Jones, known as Tail Dragger, was born in Altheimer, Arkansas on September 30, 1940, where he was raised by his grandparents and began listening to the blues as a young child. Although he appreciated a variety of blues when he was growing up, electric Chicago blues became his greatest interest.
After relocating to Chicago’s West Side in 1966, Jones worked as an auto mechanic. He began performing locally and got a lucky break when his musical idol, Howlin’ Wolf, let Jones sit in during live performances. Wolf’s influence
By the early 1970s, Tail Dragger had become a full-time Blues singer and his various bands included notable backing musicians including Willie Kent, Hubert Sumlin, Carey Bell, Kansas City Red, Big Leon Brooks, Eddie Shaw and Little Mack Simmons.
For over five decades, Tail Dragger has captivated audiences all over the world with his unique style of Chicago Blues and his hypnotic performances. He has received numerous awards throughout his career and continues to be celebrated by fans all over the world. At 80-years-old, Tail Dragger is still going strong and is truly a living blues legend.

DCASE and CIVL (Chicago Independent Venue League) will partner to present and promote a FREE city-wide Blues club tour with 20 shows in 11 venues. Club tour will take place during "Chicago In Tune '' and will be promoted as part of the Year of Chicago Music. Programs will be free-admission, first-come, first-serve. COVID protocols and social distancing to be implemented and followed, as needed, per CDC guidelines.
Formed in 2017, CIVL now represents 50+ venues in the city of Chicago. Members include some of the preeminent independent music venues, comedy clubs, performing arts centers, concert promoters, dance centers, and festivals in our city. The CIVL member community consists of for-profit independent businesses of all shapes and sizes, and non-profit organizations.
CIVL acts to secure the long-term future of these and other venues for the benefit of our communities and emerging artists. Member venues have played a crucial role in the development of Chicago’s music over the last 50 years by nurturing local, national and international talent, and providing a platform for these artists to build their careers and develop their music. Chicago's independent venues provide thousands of jobs, as well as millions of dollars in salaries, revenues, charitable donations and taxes. CIVL strives to gain recognition for the essential role these venues have played in defining the music culture as it exists in Chicago today.
"Chicago In Tune" (August 19 – September 19) is a new annual festival celebrating Chicago’s diverse and legendary music scene and the 2021 Year of Chicago Music. This month of music will bring iconic neighborhood venues, presenting organizations and musicians from across the city together to celebrate all music genres and forms — with both free and ticketed events at clubs, concert halls and beyond.
