Pioneering indian musician Ravi Shankar’s musical reach and instrumental mastery has expanded countless ears and minds around the world. Essentially introducing classical indian music to western audiences, he had a profound influence upon the counterculture movement of the 1960’s, and especially the Beatles. Chants of India was released in 1997 and was produced by his old friend, and former Beatle, George Harrison. This incredibly beautiful album consists of Vedic and other Hindu sacred prayers. Shankar considered Chants of India to be among the best works in his vast 60-year career. Recorded and produced with impeccable respect, attention to detail, and clarity, these ancient sounds resonate as they have for thousands of years.
